About

Governance

How decisions about what we publish are made, separated and recorded.

Separation of roles

Writing, evidence review, legal and privacy review, accessibility review, technical review, approval and publication are separate roles (§172). The person who writes or edits a version can never approve or publish it; this is checked by the software, not left to convention.

User administration and security administration are held by different people, and no role — including the most senior — can alter or delete the audit log (§124, §182).

When the team is too small

A founding organisation may not yet have a second reviewer. We do not switch the checks off. A time-limited exception can be recorded with a written justification, and it is shown publicly on the version history of the item concerned (§5.5).

Editorial independence

No funder, partner or official may approve, alter or veto research content (§171). Declared conflicts of interest block a person from approving content they touch (§181). We currently accept no donations or payments.

Locked features

Accounts, forms, dashboards, maps, indicators, search, comments, payments, analytics and uploads stay off until a specific purpose, risk assessment and the required reviews are recorded and approved by a second person (§152).
